Regarding the episode’s intentional comedy: Laura mentions that Tyrion is legitimately drunk on the show but only pretending to be drunk in the books, which hits on something that’s always bugged me a bit: TV Tyrion is far more loveable than Book Tyrion. Don’t get me wrong, Book Tyrion is still really likeable, and there’s a reason he’s a lot of people’s favorite. But he’s also a lot creepier, a whole lot physically uglier, and a great deal more conniving. The difference between the two Tyrions is embodied pretty well in this moment, since there’s a big difference between pretending to be drunk and actually being drunk.

Wired recap of Second Sons

just an FYI to non book fans. Book!Tyrion does have some SERIOUSLY questionable moments/thoughts during his POVs. He’s not evil but.. he’s not as black and white good as show!Tyrion is.

“He’s only pretending to be drunk in the books.”

I’d like a page number of where this interesting fact can be cited in ASoS.

I think they mean Tyrion’s line on page 391, “I am not truly drunk, you see.” Personally I think Tyrion just means he’s not drunk enough yet.

(via a-melancholy-donkey) Okay, yes, that’s the way I understood that line as well. Like when he tells Tywin he’s not yet as drunk as he plans to be in last night’s episode.

I have to say I’m disappointed in the writers of this weeks episode,  they had a golden opportunity and wasted it, all they had to do was to make him walk into the bedroom and then act entirely sober. It would of made him come off as more deceitful and an even greater bad-ass than he already is.

…and it would have undone everything that scene did to show exactly how broken Tyrion is.

believe it or not, “deceitful” and “badass” are not Tyrion’s defining characteristics. :/

But they are some of his trademark (and for me most compelling) characteristics. He’s good at playing the game, being manipulative, he has to be because of his uniquely unfortunate place in the (GoT) world.

If he had just acted drunk, it would have shown how crafty and caring he is. He couldn’t ‘perform’ while drunk, so it would be no big deal if Sansa kept her maidenhood, and it wouldn’t be her fault. That would have been just the crafty kind of kindness that made me love book!Tyrion.

That’s why I too was incredibly disappointed when the door closed and Tyrion was still drunk.

yes, but Tyrion is also a victim of past sexual abuse in an incredibly triggers situation over which he has little to no control.

I think the importance of illustrating that wins out here.

Headcanon… sort of

Here we have two screencaps from Sansa and Tyrion’s chamber, one from the wedding night and one from the morning. I might be wrong, but I think that when drunk Tyrion collapses, there’s no red cloak/blanket on that small armchair (or whatever it is). But in the morning he sleeps covered with it.

I want to believe that Sansa put it on him.

Because it’s just how their relationship is, from both of their POVs - “This situation is completely awkward and I don’t love you, but I do feel that you’re as much a broken person as I am and that’s why I sometimes do these small gestures of sympathy”

daenerys-theconqueror:

“My Lady, you are lovely, make no mistake, but….I cannot do this. My father be damned. We will wait. The turn of a moon,a year, a season, however long it takes. Until you have come to know me better, and perhaps to trust me a little […] On my honor as a Lannister, I will not touch you until you want me to.”
