We hope, we expect. But since the world and all its workings are beyond our control, we are most likely bound to be disappointed and, therefore, be in despair. Things happen that put our plans on hold, or ruin them altogether. We cannot do anything about this except to continue choosing the next path to take. We cannot see the reality in promises and in probabilities. We can only trust what is actual, not what is possible. The only way to avoid despair is to “act without hope.”
